Finding great Horse deals Locally online

I've mentioned in previous posts that I like to search online to find great deals on items like hay and horse equipment. I absolutely love sites like Craigslist, Kijiji, and freecycle. I use them all the time to find great deals on items I am looking for.

For example - lets say I have decided that I want to find an old freezer to use for grain storage. First, I would go to CL or FC and do a quick search to see if there are any posted. I end up finding a couple, but one is too far of a distance & after contacting the other poster, I find that theirs is no longer available.

Next, I would just post my own ad in the wanted section - something like: "Looking for old chest freezer - plan on using for grain storage, so doesn't need to be running & looks are unimportant. Will pickup. Prefer free".

Viola! I suddenly have several people contacting me offering the old chest freezer that is sitting in their garage no longer working - for free. All I have to do is decide which one I want & rustle together some help to go pick it up! This is just an example, you can do the same thing if you are looking for a horse, horse trailer, hay, equipment, basically anything you think someone out there might want to sell or give away. There is even a barter section on Craiglist, where you could trade items. Freecycle is only for Free items - no sales allowed. A great way to keep perfectly good items out of landfills!!
