I just wanted to make a suggestion for anyone who is interested in owning a horse. In these tough economic times, there are lots of people who would be happy to find someone who would be interested in co-owning their horses. This can be a perfect solution for both sides. The original owner will have help paying for feed and care. The new co-owner will enjoy the thrill of horse ownership. Make sure both sides are clear on what is expected of them. Everything should be in writing. Including responsibilities, safety attire, assumed risked and liabilities and insurance coverage.
You will want to find a horse that is right for your experience level. You need to feel comfortable with the co-owner and the amount of access you will have to the horse. Take your time, talk to several owners before jumping into an agreement. All you need to do is place an ad - in your local paper or on Craiglist.
